This is such a fun and creative way to raise money and we are grateful that you chose the Juravinski Cancer Centre to be the recipient of your efforts. ...Each patient that comes through the door has their own story and must complete their own journey but is not one done in solitude as there are so many caring individuals here that are committed to their health and well-being and to transforming cancer care.

We thank you again for all of your efforts!

Sincerely,

Melissa

Fund Raising Event for Breast Cancer Research E-mail

2 Letters from Juravinski Cancer Centre Foundation

December 10, 2011 - Gary getting his hair cut and 110% shave by Kelsie

December 9, 2011 - Gary has dyed his hair pink in preparation for the 110% head shaving

Beacause of our encounters with the critical disease of Breast Cancer, we have a heart to donate to the CIBC Breast Assessment Centre.

Worldwide, breast cancer is the most common invasive cancer in women. Breast cancer comprises 22.9% of invasive cancers in women. In 2008, breast cancer caused 458,503 deaths worldwide.

In the past Gary Hanna Auctions has bought demolition derby vehicles and people have donated $5 per signature on the vehicle. This has raised several hundred dollars which went to Cancer research.  This cause is especially close to our hearts as Katie's Step-Mom had breast cancer and went through months of treatment and is now, thankfully, in remission...

We always have a Breast Cancer Fund-Raising initiative going on here at GHA that you may find interesting and be moved to contribute to, or even get involved in.

A pink ribbon is perhaps, the most recognizable symbol for breast cancer awareness. So our fundraiser is going to revolve around that colour with a particular Gary Hanna Auctions flavour.

Our target was $2000 and we got there!

Not only that, we more than doubled our target!

THANK YOU to all who donated toward this great cause!

On December 10, 2011, Gary Hanna shaved

110% on the back of his head and

DYED HIS HAIR PINK!

110%

NB. We can provide tax receipts for donations of $20 or more

Angel Express 2012
A Journey to help victims of Child Exploitation
A Man, A Horse, 8000 kms
Edmonton to Halifax & Return

The next few months promises to be both busy and fulfilling for Alick Brooke, retired Chief Information Officer of Alberta Children's Services.

Alick and “Zeus” are currently conditioning training in preparation for a 8,000 km (5,000 mile) horseback journey to raise funds and public awareness on Child Exploitation.

Beginning May, 2012, Alick’s journey will take him Edmonton to Halifax and returning to Edmonton in October, 2012.

Child exploitation can take many forms such as child abuse--physical or sexual--child labor or child trafficking. In recent years the internet has added a complexity to the problem of child exploitation by making access to child abuse images more readily available.

According to The Canadian Press there are more than 60,000 Canadians, and 600,000 Americans involved in the distribution of child abuse images. With numbers this large, it is the responsibility of the people in both countries to do what we can to put a stop to this.

Most important is to provide the appropriate support that these children will need to move on with their lives.

The funds raised by Angel Express will stay in the jurisdiction that they were raised in and go to those organizations which deal with the criminal aspect of the problem but the majority will go to those programs that deal with providing support to these children who are victims of exploitation.

“So much of the attention given this issue is focused on the criminal aspect. The Angel Express funds will focus primarily on the children impacted by these abusive acts”.
